Florida’s draft state budgets have left out critical funding for historic preservation, including zero dollars for Special Category Historic Preservation Grants and inadequate support for the Historic Cemeteries program. If these budgets pass as written, preservation projects across Florida will suffer, and the expert, ranked recommendations of the Florida Historical Commission will be sidelined in favor of one-off member projects.
We’re asking preservation supporters to TAKE ACTION NOW!
– Contact your state Representative and Senator and urge them to fully fund the 2026–2027 Historic Preservation Special Category Grant ranked list and the full $500,000 allowed by statute for the Historic Cemeteries program.
– Ask members of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development to amend SPB 2500 to restore this funding and support the carefully vetted projects that protect Florida’s historic places, drive local economies and strengthen communities.
